The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus actually refers to the incredible tomb built for the King of Caria. Perhaps for maximum visibility, the Mausoleum was built on top of a hill overlooking the city. He moved his capital city from Mylasa to the coastal city of Halicarnassus and then worked on a number of projects to beautify the city, including building a large palace for himself.
